Sharing the excitement
Competitions
The African public and media have a great appetite for sport, making sports programmes a powerful means to project CFI’s image and a sphere with great potential for the passing on of skills.
Several years ago, CFI set up a live broadcasting scheme for certain events offered to TV partners. African athletes excel on tracks and playing fields the world over and CFI gives millions of people the chance to watch, dream, draw inspiration and beam with pride.
Thanks to special partnerships with the major international sports federations (FIFA, UEFA, IAAF etc.), CFI provides African channels with footage of major international sports events.
This was the case for the World Championships in Athletics held Berlin from 15 to 23 August 2009.
For the 2010 FIFA World Cup, which will be held in South Africa from 11 June to 11 July 2010, at the request of FIFA and the AUB, CFI will be assisting its long-standing partners
so that African viewers can be part of all the excitement surrounding the competition via its TV channels.
CFI organised several training workshops in 2009 and brought together in March 2010 the entire African team
to be covering the 64 matches in three languages and producing a daily news report of the competition.
Rights
The exponential increase in rights for sporting events has prompted a new approach to the use of sports programmes, systematically preferring to team up with the major federations for the purchasing of broadcasting rights.
CFI highlights its network, its special relationship with the main operators as well as its commitment to fostering professionalism in African media when renewing certain agreements. In 2008, negotiations were undertaken with FIFA for the 2010 World Cup to be held in South Africa.
