A footing in all fields
Tailored assignments
CFI initiatives contribute to organising TV channel structure and editorial departments, facilitating original production and taking on competitors. CFI analyses its partners’ needs and prioritises initiatives on a case-by-case basis, prior to selecting the most suitable experts from its network of 800 professionals of French and foreign media.
The initiatives to transfer expert knowledge aim in particular to:
advise media groups in their modernisation efforts
uphold professionalism among managers
supervise journalists and organise editorial departments
explore the potential of new media (Internet, mobile, web TV etc.)
leverage audiovisual heritage to serve local newscast and magazine production
help editorial teams design educational, multi-platform programmes
advise programme directors on the acquisition of appropriate content
Some recent emblematic initiatives
With France Télévisions and the Cultural Council of the Union for the Mediterranean, CFI launched Maarifa, a support scheme for three educational multimedia projects put forward by TV channels in the Arab world.
In Szechuan, alongside the UNESCO branch in Beijing, and in Beirut with the OIF and the Conference of the Youth and Sports Ministers of French-speaking Countries (CONFEJES), CFI trained journalists and chief editors.
In the Democratic Republic of Congo, CFI participated in the Franco-British scheme “Media for Democracy and Transparency in the DRC”, training economic journalists in commercial media.
The FTV-CFI agreement
Since 2003, CFI has been a subsidiary of France Télévisions which holds 75% of its capital, the remainder belonging to Arte France. An agreement governing the temporary allocation of staff from the state-owned group means many projects can be set up with them whenever opportunities crop up. The France Télévisions International Department and CFI can thus leverage the skills of many professionals who enjoy sharing their experience and savoir-faire.
