Supporting local productions
Promoting cultural identity
CFI set up a policy in Sub-Saharan Africa to support the best production in Africa.
With a high level of involvement in the aid schemes set up by the French Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, CFI staff ensure these productions are distributed throughout Africa.
CFI also supports various productions through the passing on of skills to foster staff professionalism and wind up certain projects.
Developing the audiovisual industry
CFI also endeavours to raise awareness among its TV partners on issues such as the circulation of works and their commercial outlets.
To set up an audiovisual industry in Africa, CFI is convinced that television channels need to join forces to design and fund together the programmes that have only been available via bartering agreements up to now.
In 2009, CFI invested 50% of its Department for Africa’s acquisitions budget in the form of purchasing or pre-purchasing of programmes produced in Sub-Saharan Africa. These investments, which have been rising steadily over the past several years, help CFI’s African TV partners offer their audiences a growing number of programmes relating to local realities as well as helping independent producers find funding for their projects.
