How new media are shaping journalism?

CFI is organising the 6th edition of its 4M Forum in Cairo, in partnership with the Egyptian daily Al-Masry Al-Youm.

Around 100 Internet players from Egypt, Jordan, Libya, Yemen and the Palestinian Territories will be attending the event.
Wednesday 20 February to Friday 22 February 2013 - Hotel Sofitel – Cairo

There will be talks, debates and workshops throughout this 3-day event

Etienne Fiatte, Managing Director of CFI: "The Arab Spring in 2011 and the ever-faster circulation of digital technology are overturning traditional journalism and the circulation of news in the Arab World. Things have in fact changed enormously since 2011 and I am very much looking forward to the 4M conference in Cairo since Egypt has one of the most interesting media scenes in the Arab world."

Professionals, journalists, bloggers, media entrepreneurs, start-up founders and citizen journalists will be giving accounts of their experiences, know-how and most recent initiatives in this domain.

The three days will be geared around plenary conferences and workshops

Topics to be addressed by participants at 4M Cairo will include:
- New journalism practices online;
- Entrepreneurship: seeking a viable economic model;
- Local journalism and digital technology.

Participants will attempt to address the following issues:
- How journalists are handling the current transition towards a new media environment
- How to reorganise their work to foster a more collaborative experience
- Tools for citizen journalists and bloggers to use to generate content
- New media fostering journalism in touch with local realities and communities
- How traditional and new media can rework their economic models to fit an ever-changing market.

Holding 4M in Cairo heralds the official launch of CFI's 2013 cooperation programme in Egypt.
To date, CFI has been supporting two Egyptian projects: the Web radio Tram and the NGO Hoqooq.

CFI launched the 4M label in 2011 as a series of events embodying the cooperation operator's ambition to act as an attentive observer and support new media usage ushered into southern countries along with the Internet.
Five editions have already taken place, with support from local partners: Montpellier in June 2011, and June 2012, Tunis in January 2012, Belgrade in April 2012, and Abidjan in November 2012.
