Birth of a new pure player in Morocco

Birth of a new pure player in Morocco

After months of intensive work, le Desk, a Moroccan news and investigation pure player, came into being on Monday, 9 November 2015.

Supported by Ebticar, a project financed by the European Union and a Moroccan investor, this new media organisation intends to preserve its independence by means of reader subscriptions and to validate the viability of the paywall model in Morocco.

Le Deskis simultaneously devoted to real-time news and to current affairs analysis using long-format writing, investigative reporting and "fact-checking", "desintox" (detox) or "en clair" (in plain language) sections that are intended to rectify or decipher information. Also at the heart of the mission of le Desk, which brings together a multidisciplinary team composed of designers, data experts, photographers and web developers in addition to experienced journalists, is conveying complex data to the reader in a comprehensible manner by means of data visualisation and interactive graphics.

The subscription costs 60 dirhams per month (approximately € 5.50), or 480 dirhams per year (€ 44). The " Découverte" (discovery) offer enables users to test the format and quality of the information provided for ten days before subscribing.

Upon reaching 7,000 subscriptions, le Desk will have reached its target.

Best of luck to le Desk!
