Burma: sports to the fore on Forever

Burma: sports to the fore on Forever

A week before the start of the 2013 Southeast Asian Games, the young editorial team at Burma’s Forever TV station is getting ready to cover this major sporting event, with support from CFI.

For over a year, CFI has been providing development support to Burmese media organisations and in particular to the Forever group, helping it to structure its production resources and providing guidance as it seeks to create the country's first full-scale production chain for television news.
In 2012 and 2013, CFI engaged French media experts over a period of several months to pass on their experience to Forever's staff and organise training for the channel's young journalists.
The end result of this collaboration was the establishment in 2013 of new dedicated news and sports desks within Forever.

The 27th Sea Games 2013, the Olympics of Southeast Asia, will take place in Burma from 11 to 22 December. Forever is committing a significant amount of resources in order to provide international coverage for nine of the events, and intends to have a studio broadcasting non-stop throughout the Games. The station plans to have two production teams at Nay Pyi Taw and Rangoon, which will cover the events and provide interviews and portraits of the competitors.

A year of cooperation in figures:
135 weeks of training with Forever staff since 2012
15 expert advisers
Nearly 80 staff benefiting from editorial training
Around 20 staff benefiting from training in developing a new entertainment format
15 staff benefiting from training in scheduling and audience measurement

By the end of 2013, the new editorial team will comprise over 100 journalists and technical production staff.
