CFI helps five Arabic daily newspapers make the transition to digital media

Ahead of the 4M Forum held in Lebanon on 17-19 October 2014, representatives from 5 major privately owned Arabic daily newspapers met up on 16 October in Beirut for a workshop on practices, strategies, techniques and innovations in connection with the transition to digital media.

Philippe Laloux, editor-in-chief of lesoir.be, the website of the Belgian daily newspaper Le Soir, and Nicolas Kayser-Brill from Journalism++ shared their experience and expertise on essential points such as structuring the editorial team, new formats, innovative tools for mounting an investigation, economic models and more besides.

Five daily newspapers – As-Safir (Lebanon), Akhbar Alyaoum (Morocco), El Khabar (Algeria), Almasry Alyoum (Egypt) and Al Ghad (Jordan) – have agreed to take part in this 24-month project, which will help them enhance their specific journalistic skills (such as new writing formats and new methods of producing and disseminating news) and build connections between their editorial teams.

The project, which forms part of the 4M Journalism and Social Media programme, also aims to develop networking between media professionals, generate future innovative projects and promote synergies between partners.
