In-depth training for Burkina Faso’s radio stations

Mid-June saw the start of the in situ coaching sessions for five Burkinabé radio stations under the FasoMédias partnership. Over the course of three weeks, five expert trainers from CFI will be mentoring editorial teams to assit them in setting up the necessary arrangements for covering the presidential and legislative elections in October 2015.

The hasty departure of Blaise Compaoré, in the wake of the popular uprising of October 2014, cleared the way for a period of transition in Burkina Faso, which is to culminate in free, transparent and democratic presidential elections – the first in 27 years. Journalists and the media have an essential role to play in this context.

By helping the beneficiary radio stations to implement more professional information processing systems that are more in keeping with the expectations of Burkina Faso's citizens, this coaching session is an important part of the FasoMédias project. The in situ approach enables the entire team at all levels to be mentored at the same time and makes it possible to get to grips, also, with journalistic techniques, organisation of work, editorial strategy and the adaptation of programme schedules to the specific requirements of the period of the elections.

The Radio Liberté's team

This initial series of editorial coaching sessions concerns three Ouagadougou radio stations – Radio Liberté, Oméga FM and Savane FM one station in Bobo Dioulasso (la Radio LPC), et Radio Loudonin Sapouy.
