The Final Countdown to COP21

The Final Countdown to COP21

With one month to go before the 21st COP21 takes place in Paris, the African radio and Internet journalists involved in the Media 21 project assembled at Victoria Falls and Antananarivo to take part in the final training courses.

On 26 and 27 October 2015, the nine journalists and bloggers participating in the Media 21 project, who hail from Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and Madagascar, together with journalists from PACJA (the Pan African Climate Justice Alliance), attended a workshop that focused on the role played by the media in covering the issues related to climate change.

Victoria Falls: providing Internet coverage of the CCDA conference in preparation for COP21

This training course aimed to help participants devise the media coverage strategy for COP21 and further increase their understanding of climate-related discussions. Meetings were organised with several journalists having a great deal of experience in covering international events.

The journalists then covered the 5th Climate Change and Development in Africa (CCDA) conference at Victoria Falls, thereby perfecting their editorial and technical strategies in preparation for COP21.

This workshop was jointly organised by CFI and PACJA (the Pan African Climate Justice Alliance), in partnership with UNECA (the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa).

Antananarivo: enhancing media coverage mechanisms for radio

The journalists took part in a training session which ran until 31 October 2015 at the French Institute of Madagascar in Antananarivo. Led by the RFI journalist Arnaud Jouve, this workshop focused on optimising the participants' preparatory work and teaching them about media coverage mechanisms.
The ten journalists were also able to gain a better understanding of the global and environmental issues that will be discussed at COP21.
