Newsmakers perfect their editorial management skills in Benin

From 12 to 18 November 2016, ten directors from partner media outlets, their chief editors and their programme managers took part in an editorial management training course in Cotonou.

Besides having to have a wide range of skills, journalists also need to be properly managed in order to ensure that media outlets produce high-quality news and programmes. It was for this reason that several workshops were organised, led by the journalist Pierre Yves Schneider andt he expert in local radio management,Sahadou Ali Zato.

The participants discussed the role of the media in developing a culture of citizenship and controlling public initiatives. They also exchanged their thoughts on the individual and complementary role played by different editorial or administrative managers in the day-to-day operations of radio and television stations. Various subjects were tackled, including work organisation, team management, where the themes of a project should be placed, and which formats should be prioritised.

The participants discussed a very broad range of topics, so that they could then go on to help the different stakeholders in society to contribute to citizens dialogues.
