Understanding the key concepts of citizenship

From 28 to 30 March 2017, the NGO SOS Civisme conducted a training course on the key concepts of citizenship in Parakou (Benin).

The aim was to deepen and reinforce the knowledge of 33 people – journalists, bloggers and members of civil society – on the fundamental concepts of citizenship.

The participants were prompted to reflect on these concepts themselves, by way of discussions in small groups. In the general debate, involving all participants, a moderator presented the main themes to be remembered in this topic. At the end of the training, a discussion workshop offered an opportunity to make provision for possible action for generating operational synergy between the media outlets and the citizen participation units (Cellules de Participation Citoyenne – CPCs) in the seven areas of action in Benin.

The beneficiaries of this session will now be able to make these concepts more accessible to citizens and, if necessary, question the authories on matters of public finance.
