CFI, partner with African TV channels for the 2010 FIFA World Cup



CFI invites five southern TV channels to Cannes


From 10 to 24 May, CFI will be bringing together a team of 10 journalists for cultural affairs from TV channels in Armenia (ARMTV), Burkina Faso (RTB), Egypt (ETV), the Philippines (ABS-CBN) and Senegal (RTS), to cover the 63rd edition of the Cannes Film Festival.


Heading for South Africa!


The 2010 FIFA World Cup is to be held in South Africa from 11 June to 11 July 2010. To support its African TV partners as they get ready for this event, CFI has been organising advanced workshops on sports journalism for the past several months.

Training tomorrow’s journalists in the DRC


CFI initiated a series of training courses on the theme of reporting on the economy and investigative journalism for ten young journalists from private TV channels in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Two workshops took place in Kinshasa and Lubumbashi between October and December 2009. The third workshop started in January, 2010.

MEDITERRANEAN ASIA


A new approach to cooperation


In November, CFI held a meeting in Paris with the managers of state and commercial TV channels from the Balkans, Central and Eastern Europe, Caucasus and Asia, in order to put forward its new cooperation strategy for the region.


Women and New Media


Launched on 1 November 2009 in Bethlehem, the operation backed by CFI will be wound up on 10 December in Paris. To show for it, a blog put online with the help of Rue 89: www.an-nathra.com

A successful cooperation initiative in Sao Tome


Comprising two tiny tropical islands located 400 kilometres off the coast of Gabon, Sao Tome y Principe is one of the smallest African nations. The population stands at round 160,000. Its fragile economy is supported by international aid. Its main financial backers include Portugal, France, the European Union, the African Development Bank and the United Nations.

The CFI days held on the fringe of SEFOR training session on 7 and 8 November 2008 in Yaoundé, Cameroon, brought together 22 Programme Directors from French-language African television channels, all CFI TV partners.

SERBIA


A facelift for "the Signal"


Serbian TV channel Novi Sad wanted to revamp its weekly political debating programme, Signal. From June to September 2008, CFI provided support, in the form of three assignments conducted by journalist Auberi Edler, for the managers of the channel and the programme’s team to put a new, more attractive concept on the air, with a completely redesigned set. The première for this new concept was broadcast live on 9 September 2008.

A new visual identity for the Seychelles television


Television broadcasting was introduced in the Seychelles 25 years ago in May 1983, with the foundation of RTS (Radio Télévision des Seychelles). SBC (Seychelles Broadcasting Corporation), this year celebrates its 15th anniversary. To mark these two landmark dates, SBC sought to modernise its visual identity and give it a new dynamic. It turned to CFI which sent two experts out to the Seychelles to work on the case: Renaud Lefebvre, graphic artist and Guillaume Ollier, graphic artist and director.


CFI at the 61st edition of the Cannes Film Festival


For the sixth consecutive year, the "Cinemas of the South" pavilion, sponsored by the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, the International Organization of French-speaking Communities, CFI, RFI, TV5Monde and Euromed Audiovisuel, with the support of the Festival des 3 Continents, offers a workspace for the promotion of all Southern cinematography throughout the Cannes Festival.

CFI will get its event broadcasting and sports-journalism training know-how up and running for the 16th African Athletics Championships which are being held in Addis Ababa from 30 April to 4 May 2008.

CFI and MDA launch the cross platform challenge


Supported by CFI and MDA (Media Development Authority), the France-Singapore cross-platform programme challenge aims at promoting bilateral relationship and intensify collaborations between Singapore and French producers in cross and multi-platform content development.

The GIPA (Georgian Institute of Public Affairs) is a regional school of journalism in Caucasia, established in Tbilisi. Since 2005, CFI has partnered the GIPA, offering three training modules on writing, production, and management.

In partnership with Sofrecom, Article Z and Bridge Initiative International, CFI, was holding the first “seminar on new broadcasting and production media”, from 4 to 7 March, in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.

CFI supports the “Africa animated!” project


Because local production of children’s cartoons is still too much of a rarity in Africa, UNESCO launched the “Africa animated!” project two years ago, in partnership with CFI and the French Embassy in Nairobi.

Training workshop "Tahiti people" at the FIFO in Papeete


CFI aims to address the needs of professionals in all the South Pacific island states. "Vision and Heritage", the training workshop on documentary technique organised in Papeete as part of FIFO 2005, will be followed up in 2006 by a second workshop, this time on the theme of portraits, entitled "Tahiti People".

Sitcom workshop in Jakarta: ‘Friends’ in Indonesia !


Trans TV, a private television network based in the Indonesian capital of Jakarta, has given itself the challenge of developing an Indonesian sitcom. CFI’s contribution was to train Trans TV employees to produce the first episode in July 2005.

Nurturing the production of African documentaries


West Africa’s ecosystems are extremely varied, but many are endangered by encroaching desertification or human exploitation. Four African directors have made this the theme of their documentaries. CFI and its partners helped them televise their concerns through workshops on writing and post-production.

The success of French cartoons delivered by CFI


A recent comprehensive audience survey shows that viewers in Baltic and Balkan region countries love watching the CFI programmes that are broadcast on their national channels. Especially the cartoons!

Helping journalists to meet the democratic challenge


The Congolese electorate are due to vote in June 2005, a first for this country, which has seen a long period of dictatorship and instability. At the request of the Congolese authorities, CFI is training journalists in how to provide media coverage of an electoral campaign.

AFGHANISTAN


CFI plays a part in a historic election


At the request of the Afghan authorities, CFI channelled its expertise into organizing the television coverage of the October 2004 presidential election night. Four experienced professionals gave the employees of Radio-Television Afghanistan (RTA) the support they needed to develop the magazine programmes and panel discussions covering this historic event.
