Ten Palestinian women cast a fresh look on the world
Launched on 1 November 2009 in Bethlehem, the operation backed by CFI will be wound up on 10 December in Paris. To show for it, a blog put online with the help of Rue 89: www.an-nathra.com
"an-Nathra" means “looking”: the symbol of this new vehicle reprises that of the women’s blog set up in 2008 in Egypt. Deliberately giving the floor only to women, in a part of the world where their emancipation remains a source of social conflict, this project aims to get to grips with realities in the field.
Local news in the Palestinian Territories does not get a mention on the major networks. Newscasts are saturated with international news, with highly politicised newscasts which only put across the male viewpoint.
This blog is a window to the place young women journalists must occupy in their future country. They have a legitimate right to claim a place in this changing society and to cast their generous, curious, offbeat eyes on it.
Thanks to this new tool, they will be able to voice their opinions on current affairs, report breaking news about their region, their city, make an alternative voice heard, as a different way of covering current affairs.
