Presentation of the project
From 10 to 24 May, CFI will be bringing together a team of 10 journalists for cultural affairs from TV channels in Armenia (ARMTV), Burkina Faso (RTB), Egypt (ETV), the Philippines (ABS-CBN) and Senegal (RTS), to cover the 63rd edition of the Cannes Film Festival.
These journalists will spend the fortnight producing 2-minute subjects for newscasts and cultural TV magazines on their respective TV channels. The Cannes Film Festival is a unique cultural event for southern TV channels, offering their viewers a glimpse into this newsworthy extravaganza.
There are several stages to the training course. First of all, the teams were selected in March and April 2010, at workshops organised in Egypt, Armenia and the Philippines. Then each team brainstormed the topics they wanted to cover during the Festival. Finally, the 14 journalists left for Cannes on 10 May to embark on their training workshop due to run throughout the Festival.
To facilitate the work of the five teams, each team will have a filming unit (camera and microphone). CFI has made premises available to the unit a 7-minute walk from the Palais des Festivals, to be used for editorial meetings, storing equipment and editing subjects using the two new editing benches purchased for the event.
The subjects directed by the teams from Armenia, Egypt and the Philippines will then be sent via the Internet (FTP) to their respective TV channels. The subjects directed by the African teams will be broadcast from the CFI control room in Saint-Cloud to 70 TV channels across the continent. France 3 Côte d’Azur will be handling a backup solution for broadcasting and the shooting equipment.
This year, as part of its cooperation initiatives conducted in Africa, the Mediterranean region and Asia, CFI is also partnering the Cinémas du Monde Pavilion, a unique venue for discovering and sharing, located in the international village at the Festival.
