FOCUS N° 19 / JULY 2009

Editorial

CFI has undertaken a major overhaul of its cooperation activities with media in the south. A review of its recent work in the field is particularly instructive and provides a basis on which to progress and find ways to increase efficiency. In this issue of Focus we pick out a number of highlights from the third quarter of 2009.

Like other successful similar CFI initiatives in other countries, its work with the young Bhutanese TV channel and the training courses offered to the Lebanese private channel Future TV as preparation for the upcoming Francophone Games are typical of cooperation that is closely geared to the needs of the partner TVs, addressing the expectations of professionals who wish to benefit from shared French expertise.

The importance of meeting its partners’ needs was also a major reason for CFI’s decision to expand its policy of circulation of southern audiovisual works. CFI’s offering now includes Nigerian cinema, and in just a few months the best representatives of Nollywood, by far Africa’s biggest production centre, will be screened throughout the continent.

Finally, after the summer break, CFI will be introducing initiatives to alert and train the media in the south on the environmental initiatives being taken by the international community and NGOs. The next issue of Focus will be a special one, dedicated to CFI’s answers and new projects in this area.
