3 questions for Florence Minery-Lemoine, Media Programme Manager, GRET
1. What are the challenges faced by the media in Chad today?
The first challenge involves current regulations governing the press in Chad, which have made it harder for journalists to fulfil their role. The media in Chad are faced with severe economic hardship as well as very limited access to sources of information.
2. How is the GRET acting with the media to counter this?
The GRET started by organising a Communications Convention last May, at which the issues facing the sector were clearly pinpointed. A workshop was organised to debate everybody’s roles and resources. The GRET is also contributing with a training plan and regulatory support.
3. What are the advantages of the two projects submitted by CFI?
CFI and the GRET have skills that round each other off well. CFI’s contribution in training is very important, in that the professionals have a great need for hands-on training and to share their experiences.
