Data journalism training in ASEAN countries: the 12 winning projects

On 7 February 2017 CFI has launched a call for applications addressed to media organizations with relevant data journalism project that could impact on local communities or tackle topics related to people's rights and freedom to participate in data journalism training as part of 4M Asia project.

12 projects, from 7 ASEAN countries, from small local newspapers to major online media organizations, were selected by a Jury made up of Marianne Bouchart, Penhleak "Pinkie" Chan, Gemma B. Mendoza, Kuek Ser Kuang Keng and Sandra Fontaine.

The winners will attend a three weeks training programme to help them to realize their data-driven project from start to finish and learn new skills along the way.

It will start with a workshop where they could learn how to kickstart a data journalism project in Phnom Penh in May followed by a second workshop in July about data visualization and interactives in Kuala Lumpur.
Finally, the training will end in Manila around the theme of future-proof in October.
