EBTICAR-Media: Applicants invited to Marseille

After close scrutiny by a professional selection panel, 26 projects from across the Arab world have been shortlisted to take part in the EBTICAR Media project. Chosen from 130 applications, the candidates will come to the Villa Méditerranée in Marseille on 8-9 July to present their project in the final stage of the selection process.

Launched for the first time in April 2014, the EBTICAR-Media projectattracted 130 applications from Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, the Palestinian Territories, Syria and Tunisia.

EBTICAR Media will provide both grants and direct project support with the aim of assisting online media providers around the Mediterranean to develop and strengthen their organisations.

The 26 shortlisted applicants will present their projects at the Villa Méditerranée. Of these, 12 projects will be selected: those chosen will be those which are considered to be the most useful to their community, the most innovative in marrying online media with news technology and the most sustainable.
Each project will receive funding of between €20,000 and €80,000 to enable it to develop and build its organization.

During the two-day selection process in Marseille, applicants will also have the chance to take part in training workshops ( see programme) on the evolution of online media in the Arab World, held by BBC Media Action as part of the "Europe's Neighbours" programme.
