Four Iraqi journalists receive the Tasalah Award

The award ceremony for the Tasalah Open Eye Award was held in Erbil (Iraq) on Saturday 15 December 2018 and was attended by representatives from the French and German embassies in Iraq and around 100 guests, including journalists and NGO members.

Four awards honoured the best reports produced as part of the workshops held by CFI and MiCT in October and November.

For two months, 40 professional and citizen journalists took part in three content production mentoring workshops in Sulaymaniyah. Coming from all over Iraq, the candidates were selected in advance by means of a call for applications in which they presented an idea for a report (radio, photo, written or video) related to social cohesion. Mentored by two training partners, they all received storytelling advice and improved their journalism skills to help in the production of their stories. These stories covered a wide range of subjects: the integration of disabled people in society, the role of culture in the reconstruction of Mosul and even coexistence between the different religious communities in Iraq. All of these reports were broadcast through Iraqi media outlets and/or social networks.

A panel of Iraqi and international media professionals gave four awards to the best productions:

1st Award: Rabee Altay (Mosul)

2rd Award: Dastan Sdiq (Souleimanieh - survey published on www.lvinpress.com)

3rd Award: Mohammed Al Shami (Maysan) (Maysan - radio report)

Prix spécial du jury : Haydar Al Saeedi (Bassorah - radio report)
