Municipal elections of 6 May 2018: journalists gather for workshops in Sousse and Djerba

Two workshops raising awareness of the issues surrounding the municipal elections of 6 May 2018 – the first local government elections since the 2011 resolution and the adoption of the Constitution in 2014 – were organised recently as part of the Hiwar Tounsi project.

The first workshop, which took place in Sousse on 31 March, and the second workshop in Djerba on 7 April brought together 35 journalists, including the regional correspondents of the agency TAP, journalists from Sabra FM, Jawhara FM, Tunisie Bondy Blog, Maktaris News and Radio Sfax, and regional correspondents from the daily newspaper Al Chourouk.

The workshops were led by Mohamed Haddad, Chaima Bouhlel and Khansa Ben Tarjem of the association Barr Al Aman.
Local representatives of the Independent High Authority for Elections ( ISIE) were also able to have discussions with the journalists present.
The participants focussed on issues surrounding decentralisation, the Tunisian Local Government Code ( code des collectivités locales) and the journalistic treatment of the elections.
