A programme by Monte Carlo Doualiya on the local Moroccan airwaves

Samira Ibrahim, a journalist with Monte Carlo Doualiya (MCD), travelled to Marrakech and Essaouira to interview members of the AIC (Association Initiatives Citoyennes - Citizens’ Initiative Association) and the women beneficiaries of the Echos of Women’s Voices project.

In early October, Samira Ibrahim spent two days with teams from the AIC. She recorded her programme Hayat wa nass, on location in Marrakech, using Kech Radio’s mobile studio.

This was an opportunity to discuss the objectives of AIC, their working methodology and their principles. In the second part of the programme, the AIC members presented the Echos of Women’s Voices project and explained the approach aimed at convincing rural women to express their needs and share their problems and initiatives.

The following day, the team travelled with the mobile studio to Essaouira. The project’s workshop, which took place that day in a special place dedicated to worship, known as a Zaouiain Arabic, dealt with the economic emancipation of women. The latter expressed their needs in terms of education and the creation of income-generating projects. All widowed or divorced, these women regularly visit the Zaouia to receive donations and assistance from the lamkadma, which means the Head of the Zaouia.

Samira Ibrahim interviewed the women participating in the workshop and met their children, who usually spend weekends at the Zaouia, as their mothers do not have the financial resources to take care of them. She also helped to record programmes specific to the Echos des voix féminines project. The journalist spoke with the women about their opinions on the project, their profiles, their needs and their problems.

The programme Hayat wa nass was broadcast on 11 October 2019 son the community radio station Kech Radio.

Our thanks go to Cheima el Hajjam, the project’s Production Manager.
