Training course on producing pocket films in Africa

Training course on producing pocket films in Africa

On 16–26 February 2015 a workshop on writing and producing short films on mobile phones was held at the Institut Imagine in Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso).

The workshop, aimed at trainers at the seven centres funded by the Images of Africa Training Priority Solidarity Fund, was organised in connection with the 24 th edition of the Pan-African Film Festival of Ouagadougou (FESPACO), the theme of this year's event being "African Cinema: Production and Distribution in the Digital Era".

This session, designed to provide training for trainers, brought together around 15 participants under the leadership of Benoît Labourdette, a director, trainer and founder of the Pocket Films Festival.
The aim of the course was to pass on theoretical knowledge and innovative techniques for producing short films using microtechnology in local settings with few cinemas available and limited resources for producing and distributing films.

The participants learnt to design and conduct audiovisual teaching projects at the funded training centres using mobile phones as cameras.
At the end of the workshop, the recipients presented a selection of the pocket films they had produced to the directors of the centres at a screening at the Institut français in Ouagadougou.
