Advocacy workshop held in Yemen to strengthen women’s voices

In January 2024, 14 female journalists from eight Yemeni governorates (Sana’a, Aden, Taiz, Al Hudaydah, Hadramaut, Ma’rib, Al Mahrah and Shabwah) took part in a workshop to increase the role played by women in the peace process.

Over the course of three days, the managers and representatives of organisations for women and independent media institutions in Yemen set out the steps needed to develop an advocacy strategy and accompanying action. They also strengthened their leadership skills to enable them to attain decision-making roles more easily.

This workshop provided the participants with new skills to properly promote issues concerning women and raise awareness of gender-based violence.

For Mohammed Ismail, executive director at SEMC (a Yamaniyat project partner), this workshop gave the participants the tools needed to advocate for greater female involvement in political decisions.
Launched in October 2023 and running for one year, Yamaniyat uses the media to encourage active participation of women in the peace process in Yemen. It also promotes the production, by independent media outlets, of content on the role that women can play in resolving the conflict.
