VTV24: a CFI expert supports the creation of a news channel

In response to the competition from international news channels, the Vietnamese state broadcaster VTV is planning to set up its own national news channel in September 2015: VTV24. It has asked CFI to help with the design and preparations for the launch.

VTV24 and its 200–250 staff members will broadcast news programmes 24 hours a day across the whole of Vietnam. This new state broadcasting channel, managed directly by VTV's executives, is therefore a key strategic asset. If it succeeds it will strengthen the VTV Group, its influence in Vietnam and its global ambitions.

CFI is developing an action plan to support this project centred on two focus areas: the channel's editorial set-up and training future journalists. The system is being structured and coordinated by Olivier Michel, editor-in-chief of France3 Lyon, who since 15 September 2014 has been working directly with the in-house VTV team responsible for the project until the channel is launched.
He has dedicated an initial two-month period to assessing the means available and the channel's organisational structure, finalising editorial and scheduling policy, and organising the editorial team. He is also helping to identify needs and draw up the training timetable.

This long-term approach has enabled CFI to offer a cooperation model based on the principle of constant collaboration, allowing for real-time management and immediate responsiveness.
It has also provided VTV with the opportunity to tap into multi-disciplinary expertise and reap the benefits of a partnership tailor made to tackle a project of unprecedented scale.
