CFI escorts its African TV partners at the TVFI Rendez-Vous

As part of the TVFI Rendez-Vous that is being held in Biarritz from 7 to 11 September 2014, CFI and TV France International have joined forces to put together an original initiative aimed not only at the French distributors which are members of TVFI, but also at CFI's African TV partners.

This year marks the 20th edition of the TVFI Rendez-Vous, an annual international gathering organised by the association of French programme distributors, and CFI has invited 12 of its African TV partners to the event. This group consists of four state-owned French-speaking stations, namely CRTV (Cameroon), RTI (Côte D'Ivoire), RTG (Gabon) and RTS (Senegal), two privately owned French-speaking stations, namely Canal 2 (Cameroon) and Télé 10 (Rwanda), three state-owned English-speaking stations, namely NBC (Namibia), ZNBC (Zambia) and GBC (Ghana), and three privately owned English-speaking stations, namely TV3 (Ghana), ITV (Tanzania) and MUVI TV (Zambia).

The programming managers of the TV stations will take part in a 3-day training course on programme buying strategies for particular markets. Guided by experts from CFI, they will also have the opportunity to meet exporters specially chosen to match their requirements. In addition, they will be invited to a variety of screenings and soirées devoted to fictional shows, cartoons and documentaries.

This initiative aims to further enhance the expertise of the programming managers of the African TV stations, and encourage them not only to familiarise themselves with the programming market, but also to purchase content directly from suppliers.

Finally, the initiative also aims to prompt the TV partners to prepare for the impact of the upcoming switchover to digital terrestrial television, which will see new operators arrive on the scene, and new competing programmes being offered to viewers.
