The 12 Iraqi, Libyan and Yemeni journalists involved in the ILYM project

Between November 2015 and May 2016, 12 journalists from Iraq, Libya and Yemen will attend the 'ILYM' (Iraq Libya Yemen Media) series of four seminars in Paris where they will discuss, with fellow journalists and researchers, the role of the media in countries in turmoil.

Omar Abdulateef
Editor of Al Sabah newspaper, Omar Abdulateef also works for the newspapers Al Sa'a, Al Jihat, Kul Al Iraq, Al Bayan, Al Doustour, Alef Ba' and for the magazine
Al Awqat Al Iraqya, the Iraqi news agency and the radio station 'Irak libre' ('Free Iraq').

Hadee Galo Meree
Hadee Galo Meree is president of the Journalistic Freedoms Observatory, an NGO that defends the press, civil liberties and human rights in partnership with the Iraqi Journalists Syndicate. He is a political commentator and newspaper columnist in two Iraqi newspapers, Al Zaman and Al Doustour, as well as other local papers.

Nibras Almamori
Since 2006, Nibras Almamori has been preparing and presenting programmes on political and social issues on Al Rachid, Al Soumarya, Al Hurryya and Al Iraqya. Head of Media Relations for the Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament, she also chairs the Iraqi Women Journalists Forum. In 2014, she presented the general progress report on Iraq at a session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva. In 2015, she published 'La femme et le printemps arabe' ('Women and the Arab Spring') and 'La crise de la Constitution' ('The Crisis of the Constitution').

Kamal Al Asadi
A journalist since 2005, Kamal Al Asadi is editor in chief of radio and television station Al Marbed In southern Iraq, which was set up with the support of the British Department for International Development, under the supervision of the BBC.

The Libyan journalists

Ahmed Hussameddin
Ahmed Hussameddin has worked with various Libyan channels as a presenter and correspondent, including Al Assema TV. In 2014, he was programmes director at Benghazi television before becoming manager of the media department at the Libyan Central Bank.

Saeed Arish
Saeed Arish has worked as a field correspondent from Briqa to the Red Valley, for Al Jazeera, Al Arabiya, the BBC and, currently, for Al Quds and Al Hadath, as well for a number of German and US news agencies and Libyan newspapers. A correspondent for Libya Al Ahrar in Benghazi and Tripoli, he also hosts talk shows which have ministers and other leading figures as their guests.

Hanan Ferdos Almgawab
In the wake of the uprising in Libya, Hanan Ferdos Almgawab, a native of Benghazi, began working as a journalist for the Media Centre, an ad hoc organisation created to cover events taking place in the country. She went on to work for the radio station Benghazi Mahali, presenting reports on the humanitarian situation in Libya, and then Shabab Libya FM, where she covered the plights of women, before hosting a very popular programme called 'Isma'una' ('Listen To Us'), the first programme to talk openly about the abuses being committed by the militias. Forced to leave her country due to death threats, she is currently living in exile in Cairo.

Reem El Breki
Founder and director of the website www.akhbarlibya.netsince 2013, Reem El Breki has also been editor in chief of Lana Magazine since 2012. In 2013 and 2014, she was a journalist for the Lebanese daily Al-Akhbar.

The Yemeni journalists

Abdullah Ali

Yemeni journalist and writer Abdullah Ali is also a researcher on political issues for a number of Arab television channels and newspapers and international newspapers published in Arabic. Editor in chief of Rou'a, a monthly cultural and literary magazine, since 2002 he has been manager of the production company 3-D Media and owner and managing director of Media Solutions in Cairo. He also provides training on the subject of the media at the Arabic Television Academy and some television channels in Cairo.

Ghamdan Al Yousefi
Ghamdan Al Yousefi has been working in the field of journalism for over 15 years. He has experience in editing articles and writing up reports and interviews in the press and for local and regional websites. A correspondent for several Arab newspapers such as Okaz, Ilaf and Al Khalige, he prepares and presents programmes broadcast on Saida Al Shabab and Yemen Chabab. He is also a commentator and analyst specialising in political affairs.

Hamza Al Kamali
Along with several other activists, Hamza Al Kamali led the 2011 uprising in Yemen. He was at the head of the 2011 Commission of Enquiry and was head of the media centre for the Yemeni revolution. A political analyst for Alarabya, Aljazeera, the BBC and Sky News, he is a member of a number of social organisations and NGOs (such as Taiz Public Community and Yemeni Youth Leader Assembly). He currently lives in Cairo for security reasons.

Maysaa Shuja Al-Deen
CA researcher and political analyst, since 2014 Maysaa Shuja Al-Deen has been working for a number of media such as Al-Monitor and Al Araby. Between 2011 and 2014, she wrote for the magazine Weghat Nazar, the website Jadalliya and Yemeni newspapers. She has also been a researcher for a documentary film production company and for channels such as Al Jazeera.
