Medias 21: Meeting the scientists in Paris

As part of the second training session in the Media 21 project, bloggers, online journalists and radio reporters from East Africa and Madagascar came together in Paris on 7-10 July 2015 for the UNESCO-sponsored international scientific conference Our common future under climate change.

Building on the results of the IPCC Fifth Assessment Report, OCFUCC brought over 2000 scientists from all five continents to UNESCO to address key climate change issues five months ahead of COP21. With a strong cross-disciplinary emphasis, the four-day congress allowed scientists from different fields to exchange ideas and enabled links to be forged between the scientific community and civil society.

For journalists in the Media 21 project, the conference was a chance to learn about covering this type of event as well as to update their knowledge of climate change in general and get a better idea of the diversity of the issues it encompasses. The journalists attended the various plenary and parallel sessions and produced daily articles and radio items on the major topics addressed, including the impact of climate change on biodiversity, coping with climate disasters, future climate change scenarios, carbon footprint reduction scenarios and so on.

Ils ont également eu l'opportunité de mener des interviews de scientifiques internationaux de haut niveau.
