The Afrique au féminin competition: spotlight on women directors in Africa

CFI and CANAL+ AFRIQUE are launching L'Afrique au féminin (Africa through women's eyes) a short documentary competition, with the aim of highlighting the energy of women directors in Africa.

Canal France International (CFI) has for the past 24 years been supporting media development and modernisation in southern countries. In addition to its long-standing role supporting TV channels, CFI is participating in the structuring and reinforcement of the programme industry in Africa, with a strategy of enhanced support: purchasing and pre-purchasing of rights, distribution to African state and commercial channels of over 250 hours' worth of programmes produced in Africa, as well as technical and artistic training initiatives catering to production teams.

CANAL+ AFRIQUE is a satellite pay-TV operator in Africa. Operating in over 30 countries in Central and West Africa, CANAL+ AFRIQUE markets CANALSAT, a package of over 100 TV channels and radios, including 22 state and commercial channels in Africa.

As part of their commitment as partners to the African film industry, CFI and CANAL+ AFRIQUE are joining forces to launch a call for projects for the production of short documentaries, open only to women directors in Africa.

L'Afrique au féminin is a project geared around a set of documentaries lasting 8 to 12 minutes, on the theme of Contemporary African success stories.

CFI and Canal + Afrique will select 10 projectsin all.
CFI will provide support in the form of two training courses: a 1-week writing course and a second course on editing, to last around ten days.
CANAL+ AFRIQUE will contribute logistical support for the training courses and the purchasing of broadcasting rights.
