#PAGOF: meeting in Ottawa for the 6th OGP Summit

From 29 to 31 May 2019, the #PAGOF team is joining the 6th Global Summit of the Open Government Partnership (OGP) which this year is being held in Canada.

Over three days, representatives of governments and civil society from more than 80 countries will discuss topics such as digital rights, governance, local citizen participation, fake news, the inclusion of all voices, etc. The event is centred on sharing knowledge and creating solutions, for making governments more open and transparent around the globe.

This summit will mainly focus on three subjects:

  • Participation: enabling citizens, civil society, the media and businesses to participate in government decision-making. This leads to more trust in government and better outcomes.
  • Inclusion : empowering under-represented citizens, regardless of gender, race or sexual orientation, to actively engage with governments. This allows for more equitable governments.
  • Impact : helping citizens understand how open government affects their day-to-day lives. This makes government accountable for results that make a difference.

Through its actions, #PAGOF fully supports these priorities. In Côte d'Ivoire, the project has supported the holding of regional public consultations and the establishment of a digital platform for facilitating citizen participation and, in Burkina Faso, workshops have increased the involvement of citizens in the management of their community budget.
